On Jan. 20 in the United States District Court of Wyoming, Darrel Demas, 27, and Justin Dvorak, 30, formerly of Thermopolis, were sentenced to prison terms for providing heroin which resulted in the death of Alexander Herdt in Thermopolis. According to court documents, Demas was sentenced to 48 months and Dvorak was sentenced to 24 months on individual charges of distribution of heroin resulting in death. Hot Springs Travel and Tourism is currently requesting funding applications for special events in the coming fiscal year, which runs from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018. Director Amanda Moeller explained the process generally begins in mid-January. Work that began a few months back at the Hot Springs County Senior Center is nearing completion. Flooring which better matches the beams along the center's walls and ceilings was recently installed, and Executive Director Chanda Waddell said that is the end for the contractor work. On March 16, 2016, two-year-old Brenna Michelle Rankin passed away at her home after a battle with cancer. Next month, a banquet will help raise money for a scholarship in her name. Recently opening its doors at 215 South Fifth is Grandma’s Secondhand Palace. The store came into being after a benefit yard sale. Owner Kathy Najar explained her son, Shawn Goodman, was injured in September while he was cutting wood for personal use in the Bighorn Mountains.
