    The annual Wyoming State High School Art Symposium was held April 19-21 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. This year was the 55th State High School Art Symposium.     At the May 2 Hot Springs County Commissioners board meeting, Ardurra’s Brian Clarkson and Maddie Ross gave their Geographic Information Systems (GIS) report via speakerphone. Ross reported that they made minor edits to the HSC Open Data and HSC GeoHub site. They also purchased an ArcGIS Online Viewer License to be used with the HSC GeoHub site.     The Wyoming FFA State Convention was held in Cheyenne on April 18-22. Several members of the Hot Springs County High School Thermopolis FFA Chapter and the Thermopolis Middle School FFA Chapter were recognized at the state event.   • High school students participate in District Music Performance Assessments

    Thermopolis High School participated in the District Music Performance Assessments in Powell on April 17 - 18, with ten band and ten choir members participating. The students were led by Music Director Jackson Chitwood and Assistant to the Music Program, Stefani Haga.     Hot Springs School Districts’ Ralph Witters Elementary (RWE) will submit its renewal for their alternative calendar to have every second Friday of the month be a teacher training day. The RWE alternative calendar is needed because hourly requirements are met, but the number of days (175 for students) would be altered.     One Eyed Buffalo Saloon officially opened its Wyoming Downs gaming area on March 31 with its 16 pari-mutuel machines. This a first for Thermopolis to have this number of legalized gambling machines in a facility.     Local author Lea Schoenewald has a new book proposal approved by History Press, a part of Arcadia Publishing. Schoenewald’s book will be about historical narratives of the Gebo, Crosby, and Kirby mining camps from the early 1900s. Schoenewald hopes to complete the book by the middle of October of this year.
