Derrick Burrows has requested a land use change from the Agricultural land use category to the Commercial land use category, for 8.2 acres, to allow a 12-unit tent (teepee) campground.     At the May 30 Hot Springs Health board meeting held at their conference room, CEO Scott Alwin introduced new surgical director Tim Teson. Teson is originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and will oversee the operating rooms, ambulatory, infusions, and anesthesiology areas.     Thermopolis's Porshia Birdsley won Second Place in the Nation at the 2023 United States Strongman Nationals in Dallas, Texas on June 3. Birdsley competed against 15 women in her class of 149 to 165 pounds. These athletes are the top in the nation and their scores were based on an accumulation of total points from each of the events.     Tom Olsen Thermopolis Middle School science and social studies teacher Tom Olsen is retiring after teaching for the past 35 years. Olsen went to school at the University of Wyoming and then taught for ten years in Oregon, where he and his wife Lauri raised their three children.     At the May 16 Thermopolis Town Council meeting held at Town Hall, Town Engineer Anthony Barnett reported that they had a meeting with DEQ to extend their permit for the landfill. Barnett said they recommended at first extending the permit for one year but then said they could extend it for two years. Their current permit expires on June 9.
