    Daniel Powell|Nov 9, 2023

Every two years in Wyoming, high school competition classifications are set by the Wyoming High School Athletics Association (WHSAA). While in the course of spirited competition, it may sometimes seem that the classifications are arbitrary and capricious, the system is attempting to balance some important, and competing, interests. In discussing the subject, Thermopolis School District Athletic Director, Brandon Deromedi, said “The Athletic Association is trying to create a classification system that provides for fair and equitable competition,...

  • Bobcats finish season in hard fought game against Bulldogs

    Daniel Powell|Oct 26, 2023

The Thermopolis Varsity football team saw their season come to an end, in a well-attended, and hard-fought game played in Lovell this past Friday night. Coming into the game, the Bobcats needed to win by a margin of greater than five, in order to see their way into the post-season. Those who are audiophiles - and of a certain age – may recall that Lovell, Wyoming is the birthplace of one Richard Kermode, the keyboardist for the 70s rock band “Malo,” whose one big hit was a song called “Suavecito.” While the game may have been “smooth” for th...

  • Bobcats run into tough opponent in Cokeville

    Daniel Powell|Oct 19, 2023

The Thermopolis Bobcats traveled to Cokeville last Friday for a game against the second place Panthers. With an early morning travel schedule, and after a nearly five hour bus ride, the Cats rolled into the western part of the state, and arrived in the town of Cokeville. The Panthers are well known for historically operating a power-t offense, and the Cats came ready to defend that old-school formation. Holding the run, and forcing the Panthers into a passing offense, however, proved to be a bitter pill for the Bobcats’ league leading pass defe...

  • Bobcats fall to Eagles in tough fought battle at home

    Daniel Powell|Oct 12, 2023

The Thermopolis Bobcats ran into a tough opponent this past Friday night at LeRoy Hayes Field. The 2-2 Lyman Eagles were in town, and had, purposefully, come to play, leaving the Cats with a 38 -12 loss, when the action was over. What began as a sunny evening, with the home team taking the field in their gray uniforms and purple helmets, soon became a rather gray affair overall as the weather became chilly, and the fortunes of the Cats became decidedly frosty. The two teams put on a defensive...

If you were not aware, last week was Homecoming for the Bobcats. The week culminated, Friday night, in a football game for the ages. Daniel Powell|Sep 28, 2023

Thermopolis hosted the Bobcat Invitational Cross Country meet at the Thermopolis Golf Course on Friday, September 22. Teams from Thermopolis, Wyoming Indian School and St. Stephens competed on a day which started out somewhat cool and cloudy, but in which the heavens came through, with sunshine all around during the four event meet. The high school girls event was off to a great start at 2 p.m., and the boys began at 2:30. The high school course was a 5K event, that again had ups and downs, with which the top-notch runners were required to...
