With school back in session, the People for People Backpack program is ready to kick off another year of helping fight hunger for the school children in Hot Springs County. • We all came together for a few moments

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 24, 2017

Rarely in life are we blessed with truly “tingly” moments. Not those hair raising moments, but the ones that are breathtaking. I know some folks around here couldn’t understand what all the “hub-bub” was about, why people were coming across vast oceans to our little town to see an eclipse. For some, it was going to be an inconvenience they didn’t want to deal with. We’re pretty set in our ways and having that many people coming to town was a bit scary for some. I can’t tell you how many times...

  • All the planning comes down to now

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 17, 2017

Monday, Aug. 21 is just around the corner and we’re getting more and more excited about the solar eclipse and the thousands of people coming to Thermopolis and Wyoming to view it. What, really, is a solar eclipse? Well, sometimes when the moon orbits the Earth, it moves between the sun and the Earth. When this happens, the moon blocks the light of the sun from reaching Earth. This is known as a solar eclipse. Total solar eclipses are only visible from a small area of Earth. Those lucky ones w...

  • Hotline update

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 10, 2017

In order to take some of the strain off the 9-1-1 system for Hot Springs County during the upcoming solar eclipse, a special hotline number has been created for people to call with questions that are non-emergency related. With the influx of visitors expected up to a week before the eclipse, Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Gordon thought a hotline number would be a good idea to redirect those just looking for information away from the emergency number, freeing up dispatchers to handle...

  • Record year for Boysen

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 3, 2017

By now, most everyone understands that Boysen Reservoir and the Wind and Big Horn Rivers were full and fast for the past two months. Several river rescues were required during that time, ruining the chance of floating the river for most. What we didn’t realize at the time, however, was the water flows this summer have broken a 50-year old record. The record was first set in 1967 when 1.3 million acre feet of water flowed into the reservoir. As of Wed., July 26, 1.67 million acre feet flowed i...

The commissioners gave the go-ahead to have the repairs done with any monies over the insurance amount to be covered out of the department’s repair budget. The second issue is a jet ski used...

  • Only four more weeks until school starts

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Jul 27, 2017

I know the kids are going to hate hearing this, but its just four more weeks til school starts! Most summer vacations have been taken and now its just the slow, hot move toward that first day of school. As a kid, I really looked forward to that first day of school. I grew up in a neighborhood with no other kids for blocks, so most of my summer was spent at the library, reading books or practicing my cursive writing. My grandmother would pick an article out of the paper every day to have me...

Of course, emergencies will be forwarded to 9-1-1, but having the hotline...
