  • Things will slow down

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 26, 2019

I think one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves as adults is, “after this week things will slow down and I’ll be able to get this or that done.” Nope, sorry, it doesn’t really work that way. It started for us when we were in school and had a big paper due. “As soon as I have this paper done I can get caught up on TV.” Then in college it was, “Boy, as soon as this test is over I can take a break and go out with my friends.” Along comes parenthood and its, “Once he’s sleeping through th...

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 26, 2019

The Lady Bobcat volleyball team headed to Newcastle last week and according to coach Shannon Hill, they "played their hearts out", winning in three with grit and perseverance. Final scores for the match were 25-22, 25-22 and 29-27 with game three an amazing one to watch. Hill said the girls were down 18-23 and Ashley McPhie stepped back to serve and nailed five in a row, tieing it up 23-23. From there, Hill said the game went back and forth until it was 27-27 and Sesi Jensen stepped back and...

  • Highway exchanges in the works

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 19, 2019

The Hot Springs County Commissioners were on hand as Road and Bridge Superintendent Dave Schlager opened a pair of proposals for a municipal lease of equipment. The first bid amounted to a lease payment of $25,497 per year for three years. The second bid had a payment listed as $7,785, but Shlager nor the commissioners could determine if that was a monthly payment or a quarterly payment. Schlager will call the bidder to get clarification on the bid since three different offers were included in...

  • Bobcats prepare for homecoming

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 19, 2019

Homecoming football games have been a decades long tradition for Hot Springs County High School, and this Friday night marks another as the Cats take on Moorcroft at 6 p.m. It’s interesting to look back on that history. For instance, in 1948 they sold Season Tickets for the five home games. You could pick one up for $3 for adults and $2 for students. If that was a bit out of reach, you could attend a home game for 75 cents for adults, students paid just 50 cents and children could get in for a...

Cindy Glasson and Mark Dykes, Reporter Photographer and Editor|Sep 19, 2019

There's nothing like the excitement of Homecoming for the Bobcats, especially the fun things they do during the week. Still to come is the parade on Friday along with the football game vs Moorcroft and the Homecoming dance Saturday night....

  • Kind of like a squirrel

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 12, 2019

I believe fall is my favorite season of the year. I can pull out my sweaters and other snuggly, soft clothes, the air simply smells differently and for some odd reason, fall is when the “Betty Crocker” in me goes into full swing. Right now, the focus in my kitchen is zucchini. Zucchini cookies, zucchini bread, zucchini boats filled with sausage, onions and peppers, topped off with smoked provolone. I’m shredding zucchini to freeze for use this winter and making slices and dices of the green gian...

  • Bobcat golfers second at tourney

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 12, 2019

The Thermopolis Bobcats and Lovell Bulldogs joined forces last week to host the Cats and Dogs invitational golf tourney on Thursday and Friday. The first day the teams played on the course in Lovell, finishing things up on Friday in Thermopolis, giving the Cats a bit of a home field advantage. The Lovell course is a shorter course and features a lot of hazards, which gave the Cats some trouble with hitting the ball both straight and accurate. Coach Brandon Deromedi said the team rebounded very...

  • Lady Cats struggle at Border Wars

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 12, 2019

The Lady Cats volleyball team headed to Cody last week to compete in the Border Wars between Wyoming and Montana teams. Head coach Shannon Hill said the girls unfortunately went 0-4 for the weekend, but she saw a lot of positive things out of the team despite their record. “Our girls served really well and were able to knock teams out of system by how tough they were serving,” she said. “When this team has their momentum and in their rhythm, they are so talented and tough to beat. “As you can...

  • Commissioners discuss development of old county airport property

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 5, 2019

A discussion regarding future development of the old airport property was among the items covered at Tuesday's meeting of the Hot Springs County Commissioners. Different ideas on redevelopment of the property were looked at three years ago and although several recommendations were made, nothing ever came of them, mostly, chairman Tom Ryan said, was because there was no one to step up and spearhead any project. Ryan believes with the changes coming to Hot Springs State Park, specifically the...

  • Golfers take fourth at Buffalo

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Sep 5, 2019

The Bobcat golf team went up over the mountain to the Buffalo Invitational last Thursday and Friday. The boys varsity team came away with fourth place against 11 other teams with Sheridan, Thunder Basin and Cody being the only teams that did better. “Once again, we proved we learn from shots made on Thursday and improve the majority of our round on Friday,” coach Brandon Deromedi said. “This is a trend that I hope continues for the season, so that we can continue to improve our first round...

You can almost smell the scent of fall in the air, the perfect time to start preparing your lawn and garden for winter. Taking care of your garden beds now will make your work in the spring more simple, allowing you to really enjoy planting time again. One of the first things to do is clean up all of the rotting and finished plants. Clear these out along with any straggling weeds, especially those that are invasive, to give your ground a fresh start for spring. Fall is the perfect time to prep y...

  • Let's enjoy the last of summer

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 29, 2019

There were a few mornings this week when we all awoke to temperatures in the 50-degree range. Some of our days were only in the 70’s, too, but have you noticed how much different 70 degrees is as we ease our way into September than it was going into May? In May, we couldn’t wait to get the shorts out when it hit 70, but this week I’ve been tempted to toss on a sweater here and there. I’ll admit my grasp of science isn’t always the greatest, so I’ve come to the conclusion that temperature...

  • Golfers fare well at Worland

    Cindy Glasson, Reporter Photographer|Aug 29, 2019

Hot Springs County High School’s golf team had a good couple of days of competition in Worland last week at the Ed Cook Classic. “Last weekend was a great weekend for growth for all of our golfers,” said head coach Brandon Deromedi. “This was the first tournament that all of our golfers got an opportunity to compete in.” Deromedi said the field in Worland was much smaller which allowed the younger players to get some strokes in a tournament atmosphere. The varsity boys faired very well, bri...
